Project 3 - Final Submission

Theory

"Angular and intersecting forms as a monumental style in modern architecture."

The Bridge

The bridge located in between three buildings, the Block House, Round House and Square House and provide a focused group of architectural students a new environment to develop their skills and knowledge. The bridge provide access between the Block House and Square House which allow easy access to the workshop as well as the Uni Mall.

The Exterior of the bridge consist of black and vegetation panels to create a lively sense to the building. It also act as a good insulation for the building.

This is a view of the building and its surrounding from across Anzac Parade. Note that the underside of the bridge is curved to create a streamlined notion, yet the unpolished exterior says otherwise.

This is a view of the school from the underside where you will normally walk past when going to the workshop, or getting a drink. The underside of the bridge also has vegetation panels to make the underside more interesting than a black structure.

Floor 1. This is a brief view of how Floor 1 is lay out to give a better understanding of how the building actually formed. It consist of a computer lab, lecture theater, staff room and student meeting areas.

Floor 2. Consist of a leisure space and studio space.

South Entrance. This is the entrance on the roof of the Block House.

This is the main area of the school upon entering from the Block House side. Immediately, users are welcomed by an open area with couches to give the small school a more spacious building. This sense of an open floor plan is also reinforced with the extensive use of curtain walls and minimal use of walls.

Lecture Theater. Located on the left hand side of the previous image, this space can hold up to 36 people with room for standing space. The window at the back is one of the moving element of the school as the facade can be opened (as shown now) and closed when needed.

The Computer Lab. Located directly opposite of the lecture theater, this space provide computer access for students and staff which can hold up to 8 people. Note that the floor space here is lower than the main area which is part of the aim to extend the users' horizontal views by not having walls but verticality to define space.

Staff Room. Located behind the lab, the staff room is enclosed by a semi-curtain wall to give staff members a bit of privacy and peacefulness away from students.

A view of the main area from a different angle. (From Square House side)

The North Entrance (Square House side). This entrance allow access to the school from the second floor balcony of the Square House which also provide quick access to the workshop below.

Staircase to the second floor. The stairs adopted a simplistic style with a mixture of wood and black to echo the general theme of the school.

The second floor contains a leisure area (Left) as well as studio spaces (Right). Three of the ceiling panels contains a moving element as another adjustable facade angled North for direct solar gain.

The leisure space have side benches and coffee table to act as an escape for users. The space also contains a 180 degree view of the campus.

Moving Elements

This moving element is an adjustable facade system for the lecture theater. It consist of two exterior panels that can be opened up for natural light access into the room and can be shut when needed for presentation.

This movement element is one of the three adjustable skylight on the roof that allow natural access onto the second floor. It's consist of 6-8 pieces and can be opened for more solar gain during winter and can be shut during summer to reduce heat gain.
